What's going on?
Whatever the reasons for changing jobs, it is essential to have a clear understanding of what you want to do, and a CV to match. Your CV is a showcase for achievements, experience, and how you apply yourself to the challenges of work. It is also a perfect opportunity to communicate how you can be an asset and contribute to the future success of another company. Here are some tips for creating a CV that will impress...
Understand you. A successful CV will be one that thoughtfully communicates your key information. One CV does not fill all. Align your CV to each specific application. A good CV will create a better chance of you reaching that all important interview stage.
Communicate important information to your future employer. Summarise your skills, experience and approach to work with five or so key points. Endorse these within your work experience section. Creating a summary can really help others to quickly understand your assets.
Research. The most common mistake is hiding talents amongst too much information so it's essential to take time to research the company, understand what they require and showcase why you would be an asset.
Keep it simple. Communicate clearly and thoughtfully.
Size matters. You need to make sure people understand the magnitude of the roles and companies you've worked for. Show the size of company - turnover, number of employees, area of operation, your generic responsibilities and accountabilities.
Personal interests are of interest. The interviewers' selection of future colleagues will be more than just skills and experience. Who you are as a person counts.
Get your CV out there. Exercise your network. Specialist recruitment agents, job portals and social media can all be helpful. Whatever you do, however you get there really spend some time thinking about where you are, where you are going to, and plan how you are going to achieve this.
